We need translators
Translation of written material is a lot of work for the translator and those whom must proofread the translation. Therefore translation is also very costly and often more costly than we can afford at the moment. We do not expect you to work purely “con amore”, but you must be willing to negotiate an affordable price with us. Although Family-Lab is expanding we still make very little money and in each country the national owners are working very hard, but even then it will take a few years before they can make ends meet and just get paid for their hours.
As you might know translation is generally most successful when you translate to your native language, but since our national representatives are also willing and able to assist you in getting the best results this is not a must.
For articles and columns and web texts your fee must be negotiated with the national representative.
For books the situation is a little more tricky! As author I have very little or no influence when it comes to a specific publishers choice of translator. It is however a fact that publishers in especially Croatia, Italy, Slovenia and Estonia have difficulties in finding translators from Danish and they are of course more open to my suggestions. Currently our most pressing need is to find somebody who can translate from Danish to American English. We have a representative in California, who is eager to get started, And since only one of my books (Your competent child) is available in that language and no American publisher is willing to consider a Danish original or manuscript we simply need a few books/chapters translated. In that case you would be almost sure to get the translation contract and thus get paid in full for your work. Even without a publisher we would publish my books as e-books and suggest that you work on basis of an agreed royalty agreement.
If you need further information please don’t hesitate to contact us directly or any of the national branches.
And thank you for taking the time to read this!!
Yours,
Jesper Juul
